My Oblivion Mods at Mods Reloaded and Other Issues

Today I asked "loder" the Admin and site owner of Mods Reloaded (via PM) to remove or allow me to remove my Oblivion files at Mods Reloaded as I can't see or find any option to do it myself.  I will also be removing the links I have here.   This is not personal, however it was prompted by a topic that was bought to my attention recently regarding mods hosted there without permission.   Whether that's true or not I have no idea except that it was mentioned in a topic at the Nexus in the Modders only area.   I also have no desire to discuss it further and am under no obligation to supply an explanation, but I will if necessary.

I dropped in there (Mods Reloaded) today because I haven't been there in awhile and to see if there was anything of interest in the forums.  I found a topic made by a user that says he will take all the "best" adult and non adult mods from the Nexus and re-upload them.  A post was made by another user who said it was unwise and she wouldn't like it if it were her files.   The OP responded by saying if anyone complained they could remove the files...after the fact.  Not good enough.

"loder" who is the site Admin as mentioned above responded by saying permission must be sought beforehand and there were no further responses except mine.

Now onto that response of mine.   I am most likely getting myself banned from there and if that's the case so be it.  I don't have time for drama, but I saw something via links and curiosity that really annoyed me.

I have no wish to offend "loder" as he has always been very nice and helpful as opposed to a couple of his moderators, one of which accused Waalx, and myself by extension since I'm Admin and taking care of his forum, of ripping content from other games for use in Waalx Animals and Creatures.  This is utter rubbish and would have been contested years ago, particularly since WAC has been in production since before 2008 when I found out about it.

The thing that really pissed me off is the other person who commented in the above mentioned topic is someone with whom I had a disagreement late last year and has changed all her user and profile names, at least at MR where it's allowed by the user.   Change your user name if you like, but you're still the same person underneath.  At the time of the (one sided) disagreement and since I'm not good enough to confront except by rapidly removing the forum and blog from view, along with my access and friend adds on other forums, without even having the fortitude to confront me speaks volumes.    All within a couple of hours or less.

This is her new forum and the post on the main page which really made me angry.
 http://gehenna.yuku.com/topic/19/Moderators#.TwoEJvLZ4mw

And the post in case it's deleted which wouldn't surpise me.
"Moderators

Other than myself, there are no moderators/administrators for this forum. After my last moderator felt it was okay to tell me off on my own forum for saying a certain thing should be more carefully considered before posting, I no longer trust the judgement of others. Please do not ask to become a moderator here. You will be refused. Thank you.

I hope I don't need to remind people that yes, I can tell others how to behave in areas that are mine and I can ban them if they refuse to behave themselves. It's no different than showing an unruly guest to the door. Just because you or I may be in the United States, there's no "free speech" on privately owned sites any more than one can cry about free speech in a private residence. If you have something to say you are free to open your own site, forum or blog and say it there."

There are two sides to every story and normally I wouldn't do what I'm doing now and bitching about it publicly, however the truth is a little twisted here.   The basis of the reason for "telling" her off was because certain things finally came to a head.  Telling me how to behave morally in my private life, in the private forum area in particular, which happened more than once.   Your post which came after mine about that stupid "Just Google It" message, and that I found it amusing if used in a non offensive way was over the top and the final straw.  There was the strong hint and assumption that people would play a cruel joke on someone using it and I have in fact seen it happen.  However, the way it was worded like the other moral lessons I've put up with, was very easily interpreted as being directed at me.

I freely admit to responding in an angry manner and wasn't surprised about the resulting defensive action. However I don't regret it as I did not swear or use offending language and spoke the harsh truth even though it broke forum rules.   I won't be accused of unnecessary cruelty or causing embarrassment to others for the sake of it, and as anyone who knows me will testify it's something I am dead against.   Nor was I willing to put up with the fundamentalist religion based, moral judgements any longer.   I agreed with many things that we talked about, but telling me how to live and what to believe just got to be more than I could take.   That post was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

The basic problem had absolutely nothing to do with forum issues.  It was just unfortunate that that was the catalyst and place it happened.  After being a forum member/moderator and so called friend since 2008 this is how I was treated after one so called infraction.  I was NOT banned or confronted, but cut off in a cowardly manner.

Trust is earned.   Don't mislead others because of your incapacity to assert yourself up front rather than indirectly and with little digs and jabs in private discussion.  That's all I have to say.

Oblivion Re-installed - Finally!

Well, after so many annoying PC issues I finally got Oblivion re-installed.  I expected it to be running a bit better than it is although it's not stuttering and crashing like it was, and I have the same, if not more mods this time.  A great  number of those are merged into my Bashed Patch and they are deactivated anyway so it's not so bad at the moment and a lot are texture replacers.  I have to get around to doing some CS work and cut down the number of armour and incidental mods into a single esp.  Or maybe a couple.

I had one freeze tonight during my first couple of hours of play, but I was able to get out of it with the Task Manager so it wasn't a total pain in the butt.  At least it didn't CTD on exit either.  More than likely the game directory needs to be defragged rather desperately considering the amount to of files I added to it today.  A LOT!

Just a few pics to start with as it's after 2AM...again...lol.

Happy face....at getting things back to normal with my PC.   I hope.

Maigrets Battle Dogs - Rocky and Spike

My latest mod uploaded yesterday to Tesnexus and today at TES Alliance.  Planet Elder Scrolls seems to have some uploading issues at the moment and according to their forums has been going on for awhile.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40209

The resources in this and my other mods are NOT to be used for the morally bereft so called "adult" mods featuring animals.  You people disgust me.

GMod.com - A Warning To Oblivion and Other Modders

This is a warning to Oblivion modders and more than likely other games from Bethesda and other developers. There's a site called gmod.com using suspect and underhanded methods to mine content from the major and other mod sites for use on their site. It's also possible that they expect to make money from these files which is strictly against the EULA.

For further information see this thread at Tesnexus and modders should check if their work and personal information has made it to gmod.com and have it removed.

http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/428348-gmod-content-policy-content-index-system/

The site also suspiciously wants to install software on your computer which is something browsers should be careful of.

Here are the other topics I couldn't find before and one from the Torchlight modding community.

Farewell Oblivion Community - Temporarily

UPDATE:  I know I whinge about this game but for some reason I always come back to it.  That's why I added "Temporarily" to the title.  This time I'm going to be more selective about which mods I add besides the ones I can't live without....and one day I will update the post I made here about that...lol.

As mentioned in a newer post I'm getting stir crazy without my games due to the dead hard drive and since I'm also getting a new graphics card, as well as a new hard drive, I can't wait to have a play again.  More than that I think, I miss fiddling around in the CS and now Spring is here i might even finish some projects I started and start some new ones I had ideas about.

The stuff below the stars is still true and many things bug me about the vanilla game, but it's still one of my favourite games, even though it lacks a lot of things, in my opinion.  But, that's what mods are for and the modding community is still going strong even though Skyrim is on the horizon..

I've also made some changes to the bottom of this post because in the past few days I've had a revelation about the TES Community, or at least the Tesnexus, Official forums part of it and a few others.  The rest don't seem to care about thieves or their mods, but that's their problem, not mine.  This is due to the trouble over Gmods which I've spoken about in other posts and goes to prove that a community of gamers can stick together when the going gets tough.

 ***********     ************     ***********     ***********     ***********     **********
Well, I think my Oblivion days are almost over.  There's very little left that interests me except for Waalx Animals and Creatures and Elsweyr the Deserts of Anequina which are the only reasons I still play it, when I do that is.  It's been months since I did play it more than to upgrade one of my mods.  Maybe I'll have another play before Skyrim gets here as I did with Morrowind before Oblivion, but at the present I have no interest at all.

I still look for and download mods though, which has become more of a habit than anything as I don't even use or look at the greater majority of them in game, so who knows, I may change my mind.

I'm not one for serious screen shooting or the type of role playing many are into.  For me the game doesn't have the scope for real role playing as I see it, especially without mods to add things like crafting, cooking, having a job, joinable guilds, real consequences for your actions, real factions that cut you out of others because you joined the wrong one and much more that just annoys me no end.  There are mods that do add some of these things, but they should have been in the actual game, or some of them at least.

I HATE the way the direction the game is going as far as some mods that are just sick and degrading, yet seem to be more and more popular.  Refer to my other posts if you want info on that, but suffice to say I think there are some sick minded people out there, especially where rape, bestiality and other questionable content is concerned.  I'm not talking about the role playing sex mods where one can act out a life that includes it, although I can't find a place in a game for it myself when the reality is much more....real.  I've said enough about that on this blog so I won't bother elaborating and boring people with it again.  I just wonder where morals and a sense that something is just "wrong" flew away to, even in a game.

When I play a game like one from the Gothic series and now Age of Conan and other games as well, the things that annoy the hell out of me in Oblivion just seem so much more obvious.  Like the incessant loading screens, however brief, especially to enter every tiny room in a building, which really gets me down.  One example that stands out is loading into a tent in a well known cave near Leyawiin.  A tent you can't even turn around in!! ....why they didn't just leave this tent and other entrances open is anyone's guess.  That particular tent has a dog in it so I suppose they didn't want it wandering when there was fighting going on....who knows.  In the two games I just mentioned there are NO or very few loading screens anywhere let alone into something as small as a tiny tent.  Changing world spaces I can understand, but not everywhere you go in a town or city because the game engine is crap.  These other games NEVER crash or act up either which is another plus in their favour even though they have so much more content and action happening at once.

I find myself avoiding cities and NPC's because of the stupid AI, inane comments and awful voice acting that is used for every race, generic cut and paste dungeons and a lot more.  If it weren't for the amazing modders that made this game what it should have been, as far as humanly possible, I would have uninstalled it a couple of years ago.  In my opinion it was released as a base for modders to fix, not a real game.

Then there are the CTD's and other problems that still occur even with every mod and available fix applied because of a game engine that can't handle a living breathing world.  This is why the cities are almost deserted, there are very few animals and the AI can't handle more than around 15 actors on screen at once without the "statue" effect.  I'm sick of the micro management to keep a game running from one play session to the next.

At this point in time I can't be bothered with it.  I work to get my game stable and running smoothly and then for no explicable reason it starts acting up.   My patience is wearing very thin.  I probably know more about this game and how it works than any other I've ever played, especially since I mod it, personally and in released mods which don't really show how much I do actually know.

I can do world building and editing, some basic scripting and quest work as well as other things.  As far as quests go I don't use them in my released mods, except for a couple of small ones, because the mods I make are ones I always like to play with and it peeves me when I have to do my own quest over again for every new character.  That's not to say I'm ungrateful for the epic quest mods that are around...I thank the people who have the patience to do it and have enjoyed their work immensely.

Then there's the recent furor over the upgrade to Tesnexus and it's other game sections.  This was very nearly the nail in the coffin for me and almost put me off altogether.  However it is growing on me, especially since some changes gave been made.  I'm having a problem with downloading anything, but since it seems to be hard to nail down what that problem actually is, and I'm not alone, I'll wait until a solution is found...hopefully.   At the  moment there's not much that interests me in the newer files and I also don't want to download much until I get my computer fixed....see newer posts re hard drive.

My main gripe about Tesnexus as a community though is some of the people and I guess it's a bit like the old saying "You can choose your friends, but not your family."   Or something like that.  Like any group of people there are some I wouldn't give the time of day to and others who could be good friends, and in fact some are.  Some of them are my age and older, not just some of the younger members.

I haven't been as active in the community as I used to be because the community has changed and is definitely not as friendly.  I suppose that's because it's grown so much since I joined.  Too many chiefs and not enough Indians as the saying goes and I'm not talking about the staff.  The normal members, who think they are the be all and end all of the community and get to say what others can think and say just grates on my nerves.  It's like any family where the bullies rule, get away with it, and everyone else is expected to tow the line.

If I ever see this emote, and it's other forms again, related to people having a voice it will be too soon.

Re the Tesnexus upgrade....There are things I don't like about the upgrade, but it's here to stay and I admit it's growing on me.  Orange isn't one of my favourite colours either, but at least it was toned down.  It's better than the Fallout colours though...lol.

I've removed the rest of the rant.  Over the past days it's proven to me just how close a community can be when something threatens it.  Refer to the posts about Gmods.com.   It's pointless and self defeating to whine and complain about things I can't change and that are often bought about by my own personal problems.  It  might make me feel some kind of relief for a short time because I can say what I like here to a point, but then when I read back over what I've written it seems petty and is not who I really am.  If I'm going to complain about something I'll keep it private so I can vent without regret.

I also want to take this opportunity to apologize to any people I may have offended, however I won't mention any names here.  The people I do not get along with probably know it already and will never be friends.  Not because they have differing opinions to me, that's natural after all, but because of their nature and the way they treat others.

Suffice to say, I have made a lot of friends through the TES modding community and some are still friends after all the years since Morrowind and then the Oblivion years.

Oblivion Experiment

A few screen shots of an experimental Oblivion race I put together after I was given the main files yesterday.

It gave me something to do after recovering from a virus that I thought started out as one of the migraine headaches I have on a regular basis.  I still feel like crap and I know I'm supposed to be answering emails among other things, but I'll get to that tomorrow or the next day.  I'm not ignoring anyone....just don't feel like talking at the moment, virtually or otherwise.  My apologies.

Anyway, the race is not much use except for screen shots as the eyes don't blink and there's very little facial expression although it is functional as far as game play goes I suppose.  Since screen shooting factors in as a very small percentage of my game play time, I doubt I will use the race except maybe for a few more pictures.

Hence...the experiment.     By the way, don't ask for it as the hair is private (separate mod files) and I imagine so are the rest of the race files although they could probably be found with some diligence.  I don't actually know where they came from myself, so I can't help there anyway.

You'll notice the lack of AA and some jaggies against the black background.  I forgot to enable it after some fiddling and indecision about Bloom and HDR.  I've gotten used to Bloom now and I prefer it to the eye jarring glare.

As someone commented at Tesnexus a little while ago, (in a controversial hot topic), that screen shots with the jaggies are hideous and shouldn't be allowed as they are an offense to the eye,  among other things (slight paraphrasing as his words were even more offensive) ......enjoy and suck it up...   They weren't my screen shots he was talking about though as I don't have any at Tesnexus to be criticized, but I'm pretty sure it offended some people.  We commoners are treated so unjustly sometimes.  And that was sarcasm if no-one guessed.

Alice the Spider Mod

I updated my Along Came A Spider mod for Oblivion today with a few minor changes. It's also now at Tesnexus.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39666
NOTE: I do not use any other companions besides my own creatures so I will not be looking into compatibility with other companion mods. I mention this because of comments regarding a user's CM Partners fighting with Alice.

The problem is NOT with my mod, but either a faction or script issue with CM Partners and I am not going to look into it as I only make my mods compatible with the vanilla game. However, I do use overhaul mods and a number of others without any fighting issues, so I don't see it as my problem.

Edit: That's the reason for the screen shot in the IC Market.   Although it doesn't actually show other companions, it does show a peaceful existence with NPC's.

Patch for My Gypsy Moon Race (Oblivion)

In the remote event that anyone may be using my Gypsy Moon Race I have a patch that fixes the problem with the ears and earrings. I uploaded the wrong esp to Mods Reloaded, the only place my mod exists at the moment besides my storage host. However, I can't edit or add to it at the moment due to an issue at their end which I'm not entirely happy about.

EDIT:  Fixed but rather than re-upload the complete mod again I'm going to add this link to the entry at Mods Reloaded.

This is the current patch location.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/7i7li15gf746yzy/Gypsy%20Moon%20Fixed.7z

Thank you to the one person at Tesnexus who did take the time to let me know there was a problem with the race so I could fix it.

Edit:  The complete mod and patch are also both available at TES Alliance.

Re-uploading of my mods (Don't do it!)

It was brought to my attention the other day that someone uploaded my Twin Pixies mod to Tesnexus without asking or mentioning it to me.

It says at the bottom of ALL of my Readme's they must not be uploaded anywhere for any reason, to any site that I don't upload them to myself.  If I wanted them at Tesnexus I would have done it myself and I don't intend to do so.  The people who did manage to download it may find it doesn't work for them and I don't intend to remedy that situation.

I do keep a daily eye on many mod sites and forums, English and other languages, because I play Oblivion and download mods myself, so don't think I won't know about it just because I don't have a high profile in the community.  Some sites I can do little about, but the ones I can will be asked to remove them if they don't bother to contact me first.  It's just polite, especially when I request to be asked first.  Is that so hard?

Recently all of my files were uploaded to Softpedia by their staff without asking me despite my Readme information which they did NOT include on their page entries.   I received over 15 emails, one for every mod, saying they were doing this and in the middle of that I received another to say they were removing them because they had failed to check my information.   That should have been done first, not after and it isn't hard to do since it's included in the archive.

Removal was voluntary on Softpedia's part in my case, but an email I sent to their Games Manager about it was ignored.  I may not have minded if they had asked first, but their tactics were underhanded and just rude so even if they did ask after the fact the answer would be, NO.

Now it's happening to other modders without their consent, but they don't seem to be as lucky as I was at getting them removed.   It seems the staff at Softpedia are ignoring them, so I hope something can be done about it.

My mods may not be earth shaking, but they are personal to me and despite what many people say about modder's rights and being selfish to the user community for not sharing, I can and will do what I like with them.   Default content belongs to Bethesda, custom content I have permission to use belongs to the creator and in my case certain texts in the form of books and notes belong to me.

It's people who think they have a given right to anything and everything and have childish tantrums because they can't always have what they want that makes it hard for the mature and sensible mod users.   All I can say to them is grow up, realize the world doesn't revolve around you, sharing is voluntary and some of you just don't deserve anything.
